I studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with a BA(Hons) in 1986. Since then I have been a professional artist with regular solo and group exhibitions around the UK and abroad. In 2007 and 2015 I was awarded prizes at the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS), London and in 2016 and 2022 I was nominated for the ‘Fabriano International Watercolour Prize’ in Italy. I also exhibit regularly at the RSW (Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour). In 2017 I was Artist in Residence at the Museo della Carta e della Filigrana in Fabriano, Italy and for the last 5 years have led the Scottish group to the international watercolour convention in Italy, ‘FabrianoinAcquarello’ and am Scottish country leader for the InArte Watercolour Platform. In 2021 my painting in BudapestinAcquarello, Hungary, won the ‘visitors’ choice’. In 2022 I became an elected member of the RSW (Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour) and am also a Council member. I teach occasional workshops in various locations and a regular floral watercolour class at the Edinburgh Drawing School, Great King Street in Edinburgh. My work is in numerous private and corporate collections worldwide including Adam and Co., Edinburgh, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, London, author Ian Rankin and Paintings in Hospitals, Scotland.

Dame Elizabeth Blackadder DBE was my tutor at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh as part of my degree course. From her I developed a love of watercolour, flowers and plants which has subsequently been the mainstay of my career as an artist. The versatility of watercolour lends itself particularly to the depiction of flowers. The quantity of water is key to watercolour painting: I like to play with the balance between detailed work and the abstract effects of too much water….and lots of colour. As well as botanical subjects, I also paint cityscapes, landscapes and portraits.
